  rachelle intro   Rachelle's Travels

After graduating in 2006 with a Cert IV in Photoimaging, Rachelle Davey's itchy feet took her off to China, Mongolia and Russia where she has been guiding train tours through these amazing countries. An email from Rachelle is below, including a link to photos of her travels.

'Everything is going really well over here. So far I have had a combination of different trips and this has kept the job interesting. The tour groups have been quite small with a max of 8 and as few as 4 so this has also been good. The group members have been from Australia, NZ, England, Scotland, America, Denmark and Canada, ranging in age from 26 to 76!!

I have learnt quite a bit of Russian as this is where I seem to spend the most time. The different cultures in China, Mongolia and Russia are a real contrast. It is always good to get to the wide open spaces of the Mongolian Ger camps after the hectic pace of Moscow and Beijing. Life on the train is very interesting too and you get to meet a lot of locals as well as other tourists. The longest stint on the train has been five nights in a row and is definately a challenge for some people! I have been taking lots of photos but still need more of quality rather than quantity I think.

The season ends in October so I will be heading home then and deciding whether to go back for the central asia trips next year - these are a bit rougher and more unpredictable but then again I think that makes them even more attractive!!'
All the best
Rachelle

    Tom's really had a ball!

After completing the first year of his Diploma in 2006, Tom Huntly deferred to take some time off and ended up in Canada after exciting side trips to the USA. Tom's story since heading off from OZ is below , with a link to some great photos he's taken on the way.

'I left Australia on the 31st of May, 2007, to work at a summer camp in Ontario Canada.  On my way over I stopped in Auckland, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las  Vegas (with a trip to the Grand Canyon), Chicago before arriving in Toronto on the 18th of June.  I then started work at camp where I taught the kids basic photography & dark room skills.  After 2 months of camp I travelled to some Canadian cities including Ottawa, Quebec City & Montreal.  I then went back down to the US via Niagara Falls.  I spent some time in Boston & New York before returning to Canada to settle in British Columbia.  I got a job as a photographer working on the ski mountain in Whistler.  Before commencing the job I travelled down to Seattle in the US, across to Victoria (On Vancouver Island) & the back to Vancouver.  Since the end of November I have been skiing & working in Whistler taking portraits of tourists on the mountain.'
