- Will my Visual Arts or Photoimaging course help me find a job?
A good proportion of students who complete Brougham accredited courses find work in fields related to their studies. However, there is not a specific job referral service and there can be no guarantees in this regard. Some of our courses include work placement programs, and all courses provide great networking opportunities with local practitioners and organisations, all of which will help greatly in employment opportunities during and after your time at Brougham. Specifically, our Certificate and Diploma in Photoimaging courses are designed as vocational courses, incorporating the necessary training and practice to prepare students to work directly in the Photoimaging industry.
- How much time commitment is involved in a full-time course?
Full-time usually means around 20-25 hours of class time at Brougham spread over 3 or 4 days. However, in most cases, you will be expected to put in nearly as much learning time outside of the classroom, usually in practical activities or research work. If time is a problem for you, our flexible delivery options mean that you can enrol part-time in as little as one subject per semester to continue in a course program.
- How will I be assessed for my Brougham course studies?
All our courses are assessed on a competency basis. This means you must complete a range of projects and activiities which will be assessed to ensure you have achieved competency, eg. folio of work, visual diary, skills demonstration and research reports. Failure to reach a competent standard at the first go means you will need to repeat the task to reach the required level. This can sometimes be done within a subject's continuing program or, under some circumstances such as illness, may mean extra work to be done after a subject has finished. All avenues will be explored before a subject has to be repeated.
- What if I change my mind about my course or career path and drop out?
You will receive a Statement of Attainment for completed subjects/units, many of which are relevant to a range of other courses or be useful for employment opportunities.
- When do I have to make a decision about doing a Brougham course?
Our new year classes start in Febuary each year and there is also a mid-year intake starting each July. You can enrol in any of our courses right up to these class commencement dates but popular classes fill quickly so late starters can sometimes miss out on the subjects they want, meaning your course will take longer to complete. So it is a good idea to start looking at courses as early as you can to get all the information you need, have time to compare options and book your preferred classes and subjects.
- Are all Brougham courses accredited?
Brougham is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO #21959) with the Victorian Qualifications Authority and as such our Certificate and Diploma level courses are accredited and nationally recognised by other training organisations and employees. We also offer short course training in visual arts and photoimaging subjects which are not accredited programs.
- Does a Brougham course help me if I want to go on to further study?
Yes, many of our students go on to TAFE and/or other University courses. Because our Certificate and Diploma courses are nationally recognised and accredited, the subjects you do in your Brougham courses may give you credits to other courses, either at Brougham or other training institutes.
- Can I get credit for other courses or work I have done?
Yes, Brougham has an obligation to recognise qualifications and statements of attainment issued by other RTO's. Brougham also acknowledges skills and knowledge gained through life experiences, work experiences, other courses and on the job training through it's Recognition of Prior learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer process. more details..
- How long will it take to finish one of your accredited courses?
Brougham's current accredited courses include 1 or 2 year full-time programs, but most can be undertaken on a part-time basis by doing as little as one subject per semester. This, of course, will extend the time taken to complete a course, but can make upgrading your qualifications and skills a very affordable option. Our course co-ordinators can create a training plan to suit your particular time and financial situation.
