Diploma of Arts (Visual Arts)

Vocational Opportunities:
The Diploma aims to equip graduates with the knowledge, skills and confidence to
work in their own studio towards exhibiting in the commercial or public gallery system and apply for positions in art related industries.
Pathway to Further Study:
Successful completion of Diploma of Visual Art aims to assist students wishing to pursue a pathway to Advanced Diploma or Degree level creative or visual arts studies.
One Year Certificate Option
Brougham is also registered to deliver the work-based training Certificates III & IV in Visual Arts and Contemporary Craft. These are one year full-time courses but may be undertaken at Brougham over 2 or 3 years part-time. Participants share studio practice with Diploma students but are assessed at a different level, under different course and unit codes. A full list of these codes is available on request. The required units are delivered as 24 semester length subjects (16 weeks) and 3 term length subjects (8 weeks).
Painting, Printmaking and Photography are the three major disciplines offered. In each of these study areas students are introduced to a range of concepts and techniques basic to the understanding of visual language.
In 1st year students need to complete levels 1 & 2 of all 3 disciplines.
In 2nd year students choose 2 of these disciplines to follow through, one at a major study level and one at a minor level.
